Course Requirements
Abstracts (50 points) - Due dates listed below:
Abstract 1: Due February 5
Abstract 2: Due February 19
Abstract 3: Due March 11
Abstract 4: Due April 1
Abstract 5: Due April 15
Five abstracts (10 points each) on topics related to physical activity, exercise physiology and disability will be completed during the semester. The articles should be current (no earlier than 2004) and can be data-based or a review topic on a specific disability related to physical activity. Complete a one page single-spaced abstract (12-pt) and attach a copy of the article with a paperclip. The abstract should be written in your own words (do not use the abstract that is in the article) and should contain the following information (for data-based articles only): 1. purpose of the study; 2. hypotheses (if stated); 3. methodology (i.e., instrumentation, assessment tools, statistical procedures); 4. results (report what was significant and what wasn't significant stating the p values and statistical data); 5. conclusion (what was the significance of the study); 6. SO WHAT - this is a summary of how important or unimportant the article was based on your own opinion and in your own words.
For articles that are not data-based (i.e., review paper): Provide a summary report of the article.
Final Project (100 pts) - Due: April 29, 2008
Develop a Personalized Exercise Module for an individual with a specific disability. The exercise module would include aerobic, strength, flexibility and balance (if necessary) and would be "customized" to allow people with disabilities or personal trainers/fitness professionals to implement this program. The Module should be designed for either a home-based fitness program or a community-based fitness program. Students will present their final projects to the class using power point presentations. Specific details will be discussed in class.
Final Exam (100 pts) - May 6th
